As I mentioned on the
home page, my personal interests include spending
time with my wife Cheryl and our children and grandchildren
as well as traveling, golfing, fishing and hunting.
Below is a short story that my
grandson Josh, age 11 at the time, wrote as a school
project that I enjoy sharing with people, followed
by a few photos of some of my adventures:

Superman, Spiderman, The
Fantastic Four, you think those are heroes,
but heroes can be family, friends or anyone
around you. My hero is Joe Roberts, my grandpa,
whom I call Oppy.
My Oppy is brave and strong. He sleeps
in a tent, on the ground in North Dakota,
in the snow, when he is hunting. He also jumped
into the ocean and saved two girls who were
being carried out to sea by a rip tide. And
when it comes to physical strength, he can
lift a ton of weight.
Three other characteristics of my grandpa
are smart, independent and hardworking. Oppy
is really good at finance. He has run his
own businesses and is now a realtor and mortgage
broker. He also stands up for himself and
doesn't need anybody's help. He believes in
his own ideas and never gives up. He sets
a plan and then gets it done.
Some of my Oppy's best qualities are
his kindness, love and generosity. Oppy is
not rude to other people and listens to other
people's problems, trying to help them when
he can. My Oppy has been married for forty
years. He teaches me and my cousins valuable
life skills and cares for us. He likes to
donate to charity. He also lets us have access
to his special things, such as his guns, boat,
mountain house and fishing equipment.
Superheroes may be interesting and fun,
but my grandfather is fun and interesting!
He takes us tubing and fishing at the mountain
house. He takes me hunting and to the shooting
range. My grandpa has really good ideas. He
does a wide variety of things like fishing,
hunting, golfing, taking flying lessons and
boating.
Brave + strong + smart +independent +
kind + hardworking + interesting + serious
+ loving + generous = My Oppy. Superheroes
are great, but they can't compare to my grandpa,
Oppy. |

As you can see I've been hunting for a long time!
I am in the middle with
brothers Jim and John, ages 8, 10, 14. This is how
my family put meat on the table.

Mack Parker.
Dinner for the group, catch and release on the rest.
